Safe & Natural Solutions to 5 Common Pet Problems

Just like their human companions, pets can face problems if they consume the wrong foods or are exposed to harmful environmental elements. Even as some pets may have certain predispositions, simple tweaks to diet and environment can alleviate many health problems.

Of course, it’s essential to visit a qualified veterinarian if you have any concerns about your pet’s health. However, it’s also worth trying the following safe, easy, and 100% natural solutions to common pet problems.

Repel ticks from your dog

If you live in a tick-prone area or plan on taking your pup on a camping trip, it’s essential to have a tick protocol in place. Daily tick checks are an excellent idea, but you can also keep ticks at bay with rose geranium oil. Make sure you get the pure essential oil, not a perfumed variety, and dab a couple of drops on your dog’s tail and collar.

Calm an anxious pet

The same natural remedies that can reduce anxiety in humans often work on pets too. Vitamin B6, Magnesium Orotate, and 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) are natural and effective supplements for soothing anxiety and improving your pet’s serotonin levels. Dose as recommended by your vet or consult the label of your supplement of choice.

Alleviate constipation

Pure aloe juice is a good thing to have handy as a pet owner. It’s an excellent remedy for constipation as it has a gentle laxative effect that won’t cause any irritation or discomfort. Just be sure to get pure aloe vera juice that doesn’t contain any added sugars or chemicals.

Soothe itchy skin

Flaxseed oil is an excellent natural remedy for itchy skin, particularly with dogs. It is safe for both dogs and cats and mixing a spoonful of flaxseed oil into your pet’s food can support their skin health, reduce itching, and improve their coat condition. Include as one of the measures you can take such as reviewing your pet’s entire diet and any skin products.

Treat minor wounds

If your pet has a minor abrasion that doesn’t require professional treatment, a blend of Manuka honey and fresh aloe vera can work to kill bacteria, promote faster healing, and soothe your pet’s skin.

Though these natural remedies are safe and effective, it’s always worth checking in with your vet if your pet is struggling with an ongoing problem.
