Expand Your Horizons – Weekend Getaways with the Best Views in Victoria

We all need a good wind down from time to time but after months of being restricted in our movements due to pandemic measures, a weekend escape into nature – at the minimum having access to an inspiring and natural view – is a real treat for the soul. Wellbeing studies on the effect of a good outlook onto natural surroundings consistently point to enhanced job and life satisfaction, better regulation of our stress hormones and more joyful relationships. Here are some of our top picks for a weekend away with sensational views.

1. Alpine Adventure: The Evening Star – Bright Area

One of the best kept secrets is this peaceful and luxurious retreat with panoramic views of the mountains and valleys in the Bright Alpine area.  Wineries, breweries, distilleries, golf, cycling, walking, hiking, pampering, gourmet dining all at your doorstep… or even just stay indoors and do nothing at all!

2. Beach Front: Seafarers – Apollo Bay

Not just the fact that this weekend seafront stay has the ocean at your feet, the neighbouring area with views of the Otway National Park on hand is breath-taking. Add in some magnificent beaches, waterfalls, local fauna and flora, analpacafarm, there is also a fun pre-historic walk to explore. The big attraction in the area is the 12 Apostles lining the Great Ocean Road – a must do with a convertible roof down, we think.

3. Farmstay: Impiana Cottage

Imagine waking up with panoramic views of farmland bumping up against the ocean in a hideaway so quiet, that the only sound you hear are cows in the field beside you?! This cottage stay is very comfortably set up – even some basic ingredients in the pantry. The location, easy driving to Lorne and places like the Twelve Apostles means you can stay in or explore. Don’t forget to look out for the resident koala that lives on the farm.

4. Gourmet Hosts: The Church House

Atop South Gippsland’s Hoddle Ranges in Fish Creek, the Church House is a picturesque farm stay with a difference. This property is hosted by Peter and Mary Reidel and is an impeccably detailed antique church that has been rebuilt block by block as featured on Grand Designs. There are generous rooms that blend European experiences in this epic home offering a very personal gourmet experience from their kitchen garden, the orchard and vineyard at the doorstep. Despite this awesome experience you’ll find epic views to hold you on the balcony with a Pinot Noir for the weekend.

5. Best Bathhouse: Hepburn Springs

Nothing could be more relaxing than bathing in a natural spring set in the rolling hills of Spa Country in the Mineral Springs Reserve. Imagine your balcony overlooking the slender treetops and Spring Creek! Even if you decided to stay by Villa’s cosy wood fire instead of exploring the local Daylesford region, you’d love the replenishing experience of the onsite Hepburn Springs Bathhouse. You could also take a picnic in nature with a local produce hamper in hand. Isn’t nature calling?
