Australia’s prestigious Glover Prize to be handed out on 10th of March

Australia’s most prestigious art prize for landscape paintings is being handed out in March. The John Glover Acquisitive Prize celebrates the legacy of John Glover, one of Australia’s premiere landscape artists and regarded as the father of Australian landscape painting. The honour is handed out by the John Glover Society for the work deemed the best contemporary landscape painting of Tasmania.

Landscape painting is given the broadest definition for this prize, with the aim to spark conversation about what the possibilities and meaning behind the words “painting”, “landscape” and “Tasmania”.

Entries can come from artists all around the world, with the main winner receiving $75,000 and a bronze banquette of Glover, valued at $5,000 and designed by Peter Corlett.

For art lovers located in Tasmania, or for those who are interested in making the trek, the forty-eight finalists for the prize will be exhibited over the March long weekend in the idyllic Falls Park Pavilion in Evandale. The exhibition will be officially opened on Friday the 10th of March, with the winner being announced the same evening. This exhibition highlights the best painters within Australian and internationally, making it truly a one-of-a-kind experience.  

The exhibition is open to the public from Saturday the 11th of March through to Sunday the 19th of March. For those who are unable to make the trip, you can virtually visit the exhibition from the comfort of your own home. A virtual tour will be released once the exhibition is opened.
